Summer Garden – Simple environment but yummy food………….

The restaurant is one of the most sought after places for Sri Lankan food. The place is very simple, not extravagance, but if you are not worried about the surrounding and the décor, it is the place to eat hoppers and the Sri Lankan black pork curry.

We use to patronize this place quite often and last time we went there on a Friday night to eat spicy pork curry with hoppers.

The menu suggests you a variety of food, from Sri Lankan to continental. I ordered Hoppers, black pork curry. That is my favourite from the place. We also had mixed fried rice and buttered Kankun.

The hoppers are divine, no difference from the hoppers my grandma use to make when I was a kid. Pork curry is prepared with fired curry powder and the black colour of the curry added a lot to its taste. I had few spoonfuls of rice and Kankun, wow simply gorgeous.

Now you know the place, if you life in Colombo, here is a place you should visit, at least once. But if you go there once, I am sure that you will keep on going.

His

If you are willing to check out a restaurant that would not be spoken about in upper tears of society, and if you don’t mind being seen at a not so POSH place, and if you enjoy Sri Lankan food Summer garden is a place to check out. The environment is simple and comparatively clean. The restaurant is conveniently located beside the Viharamaha Devi park (Victoria park for most of you) with ample parking. Don’t expect a welcome at the gate or a free table basically its first come first serve basis even for the seating arrangement. Since the restaurant is located outdoors I would advice to carry along your anti mosquito spray if you don’t cherish the company of the flying friends. Anyways the menu is quite rich with all the Sri Lankan and Sri Lankan Chinese food. The mixed grill they serve is quite good which is my favourite however a bit of a caution if you are not a liver lover, it will be bit tricky since the grill contains a LOT of liver(a verity of pork, chicken and ox) . The service is ok as long as you can flag down a waiter, the waiters are quite experienced hence don’t be surprised if they don’t note your order because they have a good memory(most of the time)

The drinks are extremely cheap with the availability of most of Sri Lanka beers. However occasionally the calm environment can be disturbed by loud laughs of intoxicated artists and journalists, I forgot to mention the restaurant is one of the more popular watering ponds for prominent journalists and arty farties in Colombo (the middle class folks not the elitist bunch)

Over all I personally feel the restaurant is a cool joint to have good Sri Lankan food at a very affordable price।

Now you know the place, if you life in Colombo, here is a place you should visit, at least once. But if you go there once, I am sure that you will keep on going.
