Jack tree – Elegance, charm and mouth watering dishes

Regrettably, I have been behind on keeping up with the restaurant blog: work (and more work) has kept me too busy. That aside, let me say a few words about what I regard as the best Thai restaurant in Colombo. Folks who have spent words here know this is a claim that one should not make lightly: Colombo has quite a number of Thai restaurants but this place serves simply the best food.

Jack tree is special. I have been there several times and it remains a personal favorite. I had occasion to dine few weeks before and I should confess that the meal was no disappointment. Neither my husband nor I cracked the menu: the specials captured us. I started the meal with a Tom Yum Soup, wow it was great…. Then, the selection of the main meal, I selected steamed white rice, chicken stir fired with sliced ginger, a mutton green curry and a stir fried combination of vegetables, mostly greens.

My only complaint is that there was too much food। My fault for ordering a lot and not being able to eat everything put in front of me, though I fear that leftovers were not just left on the table, Sasha did the justice to the plates. This was a wonderful homecoming after several weeks out of Colombo. If this meal description resonated with you, go there. You won't be disappointed.

His

I agree it was Luvini’s fault that we could not update the blog owing to her extensive travelling and holidaying............

The restaurant is new and is managed by the mango tree group, and is conveniently located in park road opposite the supermarket. The restaurant is a welcome addition to the local food landscape. However I’m no over excited about the place or the food as Luvini is. Depending on the day parking can be of a bit of a problem however valet parking is provided by the restaurant. The decor is quite modern and inviting. The meats, rice and noodles even the vegetarian (tofu) dishes are quite good, overall i would give 3 points out of 5(being the best) for food. The portions are quite big are is value for money, what I recommend is that you go with few friends in order to experiment and try out few dishes to get an overall Thai experience

The major drawback I see in this restaurant is the non availability of alcohol and if you want to have a quiet evening at dinner that is won’t not be the best, the common eating area can be quite full and noisy most of the time.

Anyways the restaurant is must visit place if you are a fan of Thai, if you do visit please share your views with us।

Sorry guys, but IMHO Siam House is far superior in their food, and they have the added advantage of serving liquor!

I dont agree with you, the service there is not attractive at all, and above all the food is cooked in a Sri Lankan Thai way, but not the authentic

JT is better than siam. not to disregard siam as it kept the thai momentum alive for quite some time and quite well. however all JT dishes are better than siam .. one to one comparison personal favourite papaya salad is way better and fresher @ JT.

i visited this place on 14th Feb 2010
Great experience. the food is awesome. I did not know they had special discount on that day and it was added bonus. The advantage is that u can carry your own booze bottle. Must visit

I agree with thekillromeoproject
Siam house IS pretty good and more value fr money than Jack Tree

a downside of Jack Tree is their extreme use of lemon grass
unless you really love lemon grass
most other will NOT like the strong flavor

and one time
I even requested the chef not to use any lemon grass
BUT they did NOT comply
the waiter agreed but the meal had lemon grass
it's not much to complain but just imagine
if a person had such/similar allerigies and the resturant doesn't not comply like this
the results could be deadly
I find JT somewhat dangerous for this and was truly disappointed after that incident
